The art.
When artists work with us, they get treated like artists, not just clients that give us money. That means, we connect with them on as many levels as it takes to truly visualize the work that needs to be done. For some people, they have their system down and they bring files that are basically ready to roll. With other artists, the process might take a collaborative approach all the way to a final print. We sit with them in-person to produce the work resulting in a very satisfying product. We are very flexible and our ultimate goal is to support what the artist actually needs.
The technology.
We print on the Epson 11880 64” ink-jet printer but we won’t plateau at that level. Digital pigment printing still has a very long way to go before it becomes a fully supportive tool for artists. We profile everything custom and use a variety of tools and work-flows from RGB drivers to the Colorburst RIP software. Walker has developed a unique black and white work-flow for matching CIELAB values from a silver print, or a previous black and white pigment print, directly on the 11880. This lets us offer exceptional tonal and hue matches of historic processes but at 64” x “unlimited” dimensions. It also lets us continue our clients’ print editions if one print method or ink becomes deprecated or is no longer sold. This workflow is coming to Black Point in mid-January 2012.
We are dedicated to a pollution free and archival printing environment. That is critical with matte surface ink-jet receptive papers like Hahnemühle Photo Rag. These papers, while fully archival, are susceptible to sulfur in the air. We keep three HEPA filters running at all times and ship our prints accordingly. See our F.A.Q. section for more information on digital pigment handling.
We can do four-edge full-bleed printing directly in the printer when using roll paper.
