Our good friend and fellow owner of Black Point Editions, Walker Hamilton, recently helped found an organization called CoWorking Chicago. This group of tech-oriented people is dedicated to being a work-space and communications hub for the Chicago technology community. Check them out at www.coworkingchicago.org.
Recently we bought a “new” Epson 9600 Ultrachrome printer. Last night we purged the ink-lines with Epson’s K3 ink. This ink has more gamut and a resin-coated surface that reduces bronzing quite a bit. After linearization and profiling the new printer/ink on Epson Premium Luster we are happy to announce that the ink is printing perfectly with little noticeable bronzing and the same color gamut as the Epson 9800! This printer is now our dedicated “Luster” based machine. Soon, we will also convert our Matte paper color 9600 to K3-based ink as well when we have the time. This will increase the color gamut for our matte printer to SP9800 levels.
This post is slightly off-topic as far as the print world is concerned but . . . if you are looking for a very in-depth online news clearing house go to www.digg.com. All stories are organized and voted on by over 500,000 dedicated users and submitters. It’s pretty amazing stuff.
Black Point Editions recently finished a website for the photographer Wayne Levin. His work is all under-water bw 35mm. Check the site out here.
Years back (before I went to Columbia College in Chicago) I went to the Maine Photographic Workshops and took a class with John Goodman called “In Search of the Personal.” His class transformed my way of thinking about photography. This poem is a collection of his quotes from a few different classes that he taught there. – Walker Blackwell
In Search of the Personal (A poem)
by Brad Hamilton after quotes from John Goodman
let’s make a mistake in the morning
let’s make some monster compositions so we can stand here tomorrow
and blow our brains out
just put some film through the camera
take some pictures you wouldn’t have taken last week
don’t just do what you’ve been doing
try to push forward to break some new ground.
why don’t you work it just the way you need to work it
find a place that for some reason resonates for you
anything that’s gonna make you more like an animal
that’s gonna make you use your intuition
there’s a feeling that goes through the body
if you open yourself up, you can get there.
